Cache Redirection Benefits and Solution Guide
« on: August 21, 2009, 01:10:48 AM »
Web applications are growing in complexity and interactivity combining both business as well as media rich features to each and every portal.  Whether it's a social networking site or a financial site, the evolution in web technologies seem limitless.  While solutions out on the market in the ADC (Application Delivery Controller) market provide many benefits to the SMB, enterprise... markets, we don't hear much about the benefits that a solution such as Netscaler is providing to the Service Providers in the world.
We all agree (alexa.com) that the majority of the Internet traffic flow from the US with sites like Google, Yahoo, Facebook, YouTube, Windows Live, Wikipedia, blogger, MySpace and alike representing the bulk of the Internet traffic throughout the world.
In other words, if you live outside the United States, chances are that you are spending most of your time visiting sites outside of your local network.

Local Service Providers today are at stuck between a rock and a hard place today as they need to juggle both end user expectations (patience is not our strongpoint) as well as managing expenses.  Local Service providers PAY the global providers like global crossing monthly fees to for access outside their regions.  The costs range from provider to provider, from country to country and the prices can get up there.  Some providers spend 10+ million USD alone just on Internet connectivity.

The market is there and the opportunity is huge.  Netscaler has always believed in this market and has included in their core operating system a feature called Cache Redirection.  Actually, one of the first Netscaler customer's was a Service Provider with this exact requirement.  That was over 6 years ago.  Since then we have positioned and placed our system in some of the world’s largest Service Provider market.

Here's a Cache Redirection 101 guide.  For more information, contact a Citrix engineer nearest you.

Nice document, shame that page 12 is about 5 years out of date (dashboard: it's now white, and it has said "Citrix" on the top, not netscaler, for about 4 years now....)

Thanks Paul for the info.  In fact it still says Netscaler but you are right,  it is white.  The point I'm trying to make for slide 12 is to demonstrate the TCP multiplexing benefits of which this is the one screen capture depicts.  I should update it with the new Dashboard but it's 20x benefits wiht a good rate of HTTP Req/Sec and Throughput is fine with me.  If you have better numbers and stats, let me know and I'll update it with that one.
Thanks for the feedback though.
