7.x - 8.x MEP compatibility

We have a large GSLB installation running on 7.0.53 code today and are preparing to upgrade to 8.x...
I'd rather not flash cut all the devices to 8 that are running MEP.
There seems to be some confusion about compatibility.

Anyone tried this already or will I get to be the first?

While there was some confusion on the issue, it appears that MEP from 7.0 through 8.1 all work together.
