Traffic priority and traffic analysis
« on: June 15, 2009, 04:01:44 AM »
Hi guys, hope you can help with this. I've had a request from management to highlight the benefits the Netscalers can provide in the following areas:

Traffic prioritisation - We host multiple websites for different business units and one business unit wants to know if the Netscalers can prioritise their traffic above all the other traffic.

Traffic analysis - Not really sure the business defination of this but I believe they want to analyse the traffic for a particular website in terms of bandwidth inbound/outbound etc.

Any suggestions or solutions that you can think of that would help answer these questions would be great.

Adam

Version 9.0 would allow some traffic prioritization. Basically would have to limit traffic to the lower priority websites and put no limits on the higher priority websites. There is some traffic prioritization you can do on a per site basis, so if the majority of the traffic to a single website originates from a set of IP's you can give those IP's a higher priority than other IP's.

As for Traffic Analysis, you can do quite a bit. Out of the box you can do reporting on bandwidth etc. Also with Platinum  you can install Edgesight would lets you report on how long it took from a user to click a link for the page to load. It gives response times of the server, how long it took the server to process the request, how long it took for the user to render the request etc.

I am not Netscaler expert but just want to share ideas..

for Traffic analysis
If I were you I will use SNMP to do reporting(pdf week, month) on all system's Client TCP connection versus Server's connections.
And  Client's connection versus server's connections for  all the VIP or services.

And some compression statistic report, how many % bw saved  blah blha blah.. bytes in bytes out bla bla blah
And some caching benefits report, how many % reduce BW ... blah blah blah...

And then I can show them the report,
See!!  if it wasn't Netscaler, all these 100K coonections will go through all you servers.

not sure if this helps  ha ha..
